Character encoding determines how scanned data—especially from 2D barcodes—is interpreted and displayed on your device. Proper configuration ensures correct display of multilingual text, symbols, and special characters across different systems and applications.
Applicable to: 2D wireless barcode scanners
Note:
- Settings GBK, UTF-8 (Word), and UTF-8 (Txt) apply primarily to Windows systems.
- Languages not covered in ISO/IEC 8859 or Normal modes may require custom configuration.
- If characters appear incorrectly, try switching encoding modes based on your application and language requirements.
Issue / Question
Why are scanned characters displaying incorrectly or as garbled text?
How do I configure my scanner to support different languages?
Which encoding should I use for my application (e.g., Excel, Word, Notepad)?
Resolution / Answer
To set the character encoding, scan the appropriate barcode below:
Read Current Character Setting
Auto (Default)
Automatically selects UTF-8 or ISO-8859 and adjusts based on previous settings; restores the 2D module to its original configuration
GBK
Supports Chinese input in Notepad and Excel; sets the 2D module output to GBK (GB2312) or original type
UTF-8
Supports Chinese input in Microsoft Word; sets the 2D module output to UTF-8 or original type
ISO/IEC 8859
Supports European single-byte special characters (e.g., FR, DE, TR, PT, ES, CS, IT, UK, HU, SK)
UTF-8
Supports special characters in Notepad (may require Unicode plugin); sets the 2D module output to UTF-8 or original type
Normal
Supports multiple language special characters across various European keyboards
