Key combination (shortcut key) configuration allows your barcode scanner to send special control commands—such as line breaks or function keys—by mapping them to specific key combinations. This is useful for customizing data formatting, such as setting Enter, Tab, or control characters in your workflow.
Applicable to: All wireless barcode scanners
Note:
- This feature applies only to ASCII control characters (below 0x20).
- The Alt key option is available only on Windows systems.
- On macOS, the Ctrl key is replaced by the Command key.
- Ensure the correct configuration table is used for assigning output symbols.
Issue / Question
- How do I configure shortcut keys like Ctrl, Alt, or Enter on my scanner?
- How can I set a line break (LF) instead of Enter?
- Can I customize output using key combinations?
Resolution / Answer
To configure key combinations, scan the appropriate barcode below:
Combine-Key Off
Ctrl + Key (Config1)
Alt + Key (Config2)
Windows only
Normal Key (Config3)
Ctrl + Key (Config4)
Alt + Key (Config5)
Windows only
After selecting a configuration mode, refer to the reference table to assign the corresponding output symbol for Config1/2/3/4/5.
Example:
When I scan the QR code, the text doesn't automatically wrap to the next line, even though the data clearly contains the hidden line break character LF.
Since the scanner defaults to Config0, where the line feed (LF) is represented by NUL, you can press the Config3 key combination to insert a line break.
- Use Ctrl + Config3 to map the Enter key to a line break
