Resolution / Answer
This setting is used to control the reading, verification, length or output rules of the specified barcode type. It is usually used when certain types of barcodes cannot be scanned, the misreading rate is high, or when it is necessary to limit the reading of barcodes in specific formats.
Additional codes are barcodes attached according to a specific format convention (such as UPC A+2, UPC E+2, EAN 13+2). The options are as follows:
- **Ignore UPC/EAN with appended codes (default)**: When the decoder sees a UPC/EAN symbol with appended codes, it only decodes the UPC/EAN part and ignores the appended characters.
- **Only decode UPC/EAN with additional characters**: The decoder only decodes UPC/EAN symbols with additional characters and ignores symbols without additional characters.
- **Automatically identify UPC/EAN additional codes**: The decoder immediately decodes UPC/EAN symbols with additional characters; if the symbol does not have additional codes, the barcode needs to be scanned again for the number of times set in "UPC/EAN/JAN Additional Code Redundancy" on page 11-16 before the data is transmitted to confirm that there is indeed no additional code.
- When any of the following **Additional Code Mode** is selected, the decoder immediately transmits the EAN-13 barcode starting with the prefix and with additional characters; if there is no additional code, the data must be scanned for the above redundancy times before transmitting the data. UPC/EAN barcodes that do not begin with this prefix are transmitted immediately:
- Enable 378/379 add-on code mode
- Enable 978/979 add-on code mode
- Enable 977 add-on code mode
- Enable 414/419/434/439 add-on code mode
- Enable 491 add-on code mode
- **Enable Smart Supplemental Mode**: Applicable to EAN-13 barcodes starting with any of the above prefixes.
- **User-defined additional code type 1**: Applicable to EAN-13 barcodes starting with a user-defined 3-digit prefix. Set this prefix in "User-defined add-on codes" on page 11-16.
- **User-Defined Extension Code Types 1 and 2**: Applicable to EAN-13 barcodes starting with one of two user-defined 3-digit prefixes. Set two prefixes in "User-defined additional codes" on page 11-16.
- **Smart add-on code + User-defined 1**: Applicable to EAN-13 barcodes starting with any of the above prefixes or user-defined 1 prefix.
- **Smart Append + User Defined 1 and 2**: Applicable to EAN-13 barcodes starting with any of the above prefixes or one of the two user defined prefixes.
NOTE: To minimize the risk of transmitting invalid data, explicitly select one of the "Decode" or "Ignore" additional characters.
